I always had it mind, that this series was going to be a trilogy of novels, but hadn’t thought through the low-level plot structure for the second book in the series when I finished Last of the Tasburai. Fortunately, I learned a lot about how to design and write a novel by this time and managed to complete Scream of the Tasburai in 18 months, as opposed to the four years it took for its predecessor.

Now that readers had got to know the main protagonists in the novel, Scream of the Tasburai, was about taking you deeper into their true character, really getting to see who they were when placed under pressure. A second novel in a trilogy can always come across as merely a bridge into the final installment in the series, so I was mindful not to leave that impression. As a result, some new parts of the world are introduced, new characters, additional threats and a widening of the lens through which we see the dilemmas faced by our heroes. I hope you enjoy it, I certainly loved writing it.

FROM THE BACK COVER

The Magrog and their terrifying demons have crossed the Black Sea to invade the land of Avantolia. Kingdoms have fallen. Others will fall.

Tasburai apprentice Adan, reeling from the horror of having killed his best friend, must journey into the heart of Magrog territory to rid himself of the malevolent entity lurking within him. His claim to the throne of Avantolia will have to wait.

Degraded to the status of a slave, Princess Elsta seeks to be reunited with her true Prince and reclaim her dominion. Captain Rikard, reluctant military leader of Kronnoburg, feels as if his luck is about to run out. Spirited thief Ylva, sent south for her own protection, discovers a hidden threat endangering

the whole world …

Meanwhile, through the fog and chaos of war, it becomes clear to Grandmaster Suri-Yi of the Tasburai Order, that there is only one way to halt the madness of her time: she must unleash the Scream, an ancient weapon of mass destruction which brings terrible consequences in its wake.

Will Suri-Yi, against the wishes of her peers, wield the weapon? Or is there another way to stop the war to end all wars?

REVIEWS

“The Scream of the Tasburai’ is extremely good. It succeeds not only in creating a bridgeway to the third and final book but also for living up to the success of its predecessor. In fact, it trumps it” – Bookfabulous

“Great Follow Up. Loved this second part, as it slowly revealed more of the protagonists background. Can’t wait for part three” – RAH (Amazon review).

“Nuanced Swords. I really enjoyed this follow up to Last of the Tasburai, in particular the development of Princess Elsta’s character, Adan’s adventures, and the nuanced authorial control over the idea of the “monstrous” - in fact, it’s not clear at all here who is really the “demon. Rehan Khan’s got a lot of wise things to tell us, and I look forward to seeing how his work develops, in this series and beyond” – sevensisters007 (Amazon review).

“An assured sequel. The second book in a series is always hard to write. The set up in the first book is done, but it’s clear there won’t be any conclusions in this novel. However, the book still moves along at a great pace, better than the last book” – TK (Amazon review).

“A rare phenomenon - a sequel that is even better than the original! The sequel is even better than the original! This was a great read. The narrative is fast paced and the style is more polished and confident. The characters are layered and well developed and it is fascinating to learn more about the diverse cultures of Avantolia including the erudite Pathans. The idea of the scream being a weapon is brilliant. My only problem is having to wait for the final instalment!” – SSW (Amazon review).

“The Scream of the Tasburai, a book I neither wanted to put down or for it to end. An amazing sequel to Last of the Tasburai, and 2nd book in the Trilogy. Rehan Khan has delivered this continuation of the story that is both fast moving, imagination provoking and not afraid to surprise the reader. An incredibly talented writer and the 3rd book cannot come soon enough” – Pete Challand (Amazon review).

“A great fantasy read. The Tasburai series is great, I wish there were more books in it, it is the kind of fantasy that I prefer, with believable, “normal” personas and borrows just the right amount of types of names and people we know from the “real” world. The Tasburai order reminds me of the shaolin monks in a way, being a mysterious order and the Tasburai themselves showing great martial prowess. Thoroughly enjoyed this read and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new series to dig in to!” - Niklas Wikstrom (Amazon review).

“Excellent storytelling, did not want the book to end, where do I sign up for the 3rd book? I did not want this book to end. It was an action-packed adventure with twists and turns and nice pacing between the story lines of the different characters. It’s not often that a sequel is better than the first installment but, in this case, Rehan Khan has outdone himself and delivered a book which keeps you turning pages from beginning to end. Sign me up for the 3rd book” - Stadt028 (Amazon review)
